I cannot say that my father taught me many of the things I know and realize in and about my life today, but there is one thing that he did teach me that I’ll never forget.
“A man is only as good as his word.”
I realize that this has much more to do with action than any voiced utterance. From my perception, in the past 21 years of my life (well, the parts that I can recall) I have not fulfilled these words. I have said that I would do something and not been able to perform it, I have started projects and left them unfinished, I have made promises to myself and to God and not upheld them to the letter. The Scriptures mention that one of the seven things God hates most is a lying tongue, and I would rather today that my tongue were ripped out than continue in a trek of broken promises. Words alone are nothing, as faith without works is nothing.
I find it high time to rejuvenate my existence: to take a personal stand against giving any time to idleness and corrupting entertainments. Mass media is most often bewitching, and has an influence that does not tend to industry, love or faithfulness for God or our fellow man; a mind in idleness is rightly referred to as the Devil’s playground. Taking pleasure in these things will only keep us from becoming all that we can. Whether or not we consider ourselves good people or Christians, or spend the majority of our time doing profitable labor: an unused talent comes to nothing, time lost means lost opportunity, and deficiency of applied knowledge crumbles nations.
I want to be a faithful Christian, a profitable example to my family and friends, and a leader for progress in this world. If I cannot live my faith and convictions where I am, I cannot do it anywhere. Therefore, today I am launching Project TUREGO: Transforming Uncultivated Realizations into an Ensuing Genius’ Occupation. This project is a life revitalization for me, and what I hope will become a perpetual influence for good to all with whom I come into contact. I will be taking all of my talents, time and energy, and with the help of God will be changed for greater usefulness, influence, and knowledge in all I hope to become.
